Batch Resizing Album Art in Music Tags.

Some years ago, back in 2010, I wrote an article on how to use an app designed to resized albumart  embedded in mp3 files for the Sandisk Sansa, to resize albumart to any size for any device.

Today I write this article to let the common person know, that the OG, granddaddy, don of music management, MP3TAG, has implemented batch albumart resizing.

The implementation is a little hidden, but serves the purpose adequately.

Add your songs into the MP3TAG main interface as you normally would and select them all.

Next, go to the lower left hand corner and right click on the album art. There you will see the option to "Adjust cover"

At this point you will be presented with a small window. Here you can select the format of the picture, png, jpeg, or whatever the original format was. jpeg would be better for compatibility, png would give you the better overall image quality.

Below that is the max size option. That lets you set the maximum resolution of the album art. If an image is smaller than that size, it will not be touched. If it is larger, it will be shrunk, and its longest side will be no longer than the specified Max Size. This means album art with strange aspect ratios will not be touched or modified for the purists out there.

Lastly, there is the quality slider. This sets what the overall quality of the album art will look like, and thus how big the embedded image is going to be. I would stick with the default setting if I were you. But if you want the best looking, least pixelated looking embedded albumart, you may consider moving the slider up to 95.

Once your settings are chosen, hit OK and your albumart will be resized in one fell swoop.

I hope this helps.

And hello from pandemic times.
